My name is Alex.

And I love telling stories. I also love science, wildlife, hiking, photography, videography, dessert, and ice hockey. I grew up reading books, watching nature documentaries, writing terrible fiction with my cousins, and chasing frogs in creeks. At 28, I still do all those things, but the writing is a bit better.

I currently live in Cambridge, MA, though parts of my heart also reside on Cape Cod and in Pennsylvania, New York, Washington, California, and my home state of New Jersey.

A little more about me

My innate interest in nature, a life science–intensive high school education, and my desire to create all set the stage for studying biology and bioengineering at Lehigh University. Along the way, my passion for the written word led me to earn several Lehigh Williams Prizes for fiction and non-fiction, alongside a minor in creative writing.

Field work stints after graduation found me trekking the Pine Barrens of New Jersey and radio-tracking rattlesnakes in New Mexico. These experiences affirmed my love of animals and being outdoors, but biological research never felt like the right fit for me. In 2022, I took a left turn into journalism and became a general assignment reporter at The Enterprise Newspapers on Cape Cod. The next year-and-a-half stretched me far outside my comfort zone as I learned to interview, write news and feature stories, ask meaningful questions, and keep a small community informed. I covered a variety of topics, including history, business, government, arts, human interest, conservation, and wildlife.

Along the way, I further developed my science communication skills by contributing a pair of articles to the nonprofit group Advocates for Snake Preservation. In the last couple years, I've taken more steps in the same direction, joining the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, as a science writer and communications assistant. There, I wrote features on cutting-edge research, collaborated with leading experts, adapted content for social media, dabbled in graphic design, and produced several short videos (currently over 800 combined views on YouTube). I began a Master's program in science writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in August 2025.

Through it all, I have held on to my love for fiction: my cousin and I continue to work avidly on a fantasy novel series, which we hope to eventually publish.

My dream is to continue sharing stories that matter, both real-world science and fiction. I want to communicate what is simultaneously interesting and important—those stories that will have a positive impact on the world. Writing remains my primary medium, though I plan to continue developing my skills in photography and videography, areas that excite me greatly. If you think I might be a good fit to work with you or your organization, please reach out!
